Enabling search by third-party search engines

Enable canonical URL generation for a case type to make cases searchable by third-party search engines.

1. Enable canonical URL generation for a case type.
   1. In the Explorer panel of Dev Studio, click Case types, and then click the case type that you want to open.
   2. On the Settings tab, click General.
   3. In the Search engine optimization section, select the Enable canonical URL for instances of this case type check box.
   4. Click Save.
2. Add an entry for the case type in the URL Mappings rule for your application so that users can find a case by searching for its canonical URL.
   1. Create or open the existing URL Mappings rule for your application.
      For more information, see Creating a URL Mappings instance.
   2. Add and define a URL pattern for your case type in the Cases category.

      For more information, see Defining URL patterns for work items.

3. Generate a valid URL for the case type by configuring options for the pattern.
   1. Select the Map path elements for URL generation check box.
   2. In the Class field, enter the name of the class for the case type.
   3. In the Property mapping column, select the clipboard properties of this class to map them to the URL path elements (parameters).
   4. To make this URL pattern the default for all instances of the case type, click Add class in the Make this as default resource path for following classes section and enter the name of the class for the case type.

      This step is required for canonical tag generation.

4. On the URL Mappings form, click Save.
